Volunteer Opportunities
FRONT DESK Volunteers assist the Front Desk Officer by answering questions, giving directions, maps and instructions. This includes explaining how to do such things as obtain alarm permits, pay tickets, claim lost/stolen property, and call officers and other personnel to notify them of visitors.
SPECIAL SUPPORT PROJECTS As a support organization for the Police Department, we take on any project where additional workers are needed. Sometimes it is not a particularly glamorous job, such as filling in little circles with a pen to transfer collected data from forms to a scantron. These are then fed into a scanner for electronic tabulation of the data.
CHILD IDs Another important way to serve the community is by setting up a booth during civic functions (such as Western Days) to provide parents with free photo IDs with fingerprinting for their children. It is also an opportunity to promote our organization and the LPD.
CITIZENS ON PATROL More people on patrol makes for a safer community. The COP program serves this purpose by allowing volunteers to go out on patrol (two members per car) to check home security problem areas such as open garage doors. This is a favorite entry point for burglars. COP also adds extra patrols during high shopping seasons such as Christmas to backup the police and store security at shopping malls. New to the COP program is the LPD SkyWatch Tower. The new tower is setup at various locations at the mall and shopping plazas in Lewisville.
WARRANT CALLING The Lewisville Municipal Court has a large volume of outstanding weekly Class-C Misdemeanor warrants. On most weekends, the LCPAAA contacts individuals as a courtesy to inform them that one or more warrants have been issued and to remind them of the necessity to take immediate action to correct the situation. Any questions regarding these warrants are to be referred to the warrant officers assigned to the Lewisville Municipal Court.
SEARCH AND RESCUE When a person is reported missing, it's crucial to begin searching immediately to increase the likelihood of a safe recovery. Members who wish may add their names to a Search Call List to aid in locating lost children or adults.
NEW YEAR'S EVE POLICE DEPARTMENT POTLUCK This is a festive and busy time of the year when our officers must respond to a high volumes of holiday revelers. LCPAAA provides food to all departmental shifts as a small "thank you" for all the risks they take to keep us safe.
SUPPORT LEWISVILLE CITIZEN POLICY ACADEMY AND OFFICER TRAINING Besides providing refreshments for the students in each session of the LCPA, there's a fun side as well. Association members help the Training Coordinator by playing the "bad guys" in mock scenarios for the students at the last class session. Occasionally, LCPAAA volunteers are asked by the LPD to participate as victims or "bad guys" in Officer/SWAT training scenarios as well.
